I’m presently in Vermont at Bennington College, where I’m working with Susan Sgorbati and Eliot Caplan, along with eight other amazing dancers in making a film that encompasses Susan’s work.
So, after a long break of the process project with fidget…. i promise myself I will write about that in detail… and then a week of self producing my show “Vertigo”, I finally had time to be alone in the studio, if even for half and hour.
These four really short videos are all shot in VAPA, the visual and performing arts building at the College.
The unusual thing is that i really wanted to play with space, so the first shot is facing the mirror, so that you can see the expansiveness of the room in the reflection. The second one, the camera is actually right in front of the mirror, so its shooting my mirror image. The third and fourth are at random places inside the building.
I don’t know if I’m interested in any of this phrasing, but i sure am interested in the positioning of the camera.
Here you will see my poor attempt at vogueing, something my friend Cori Olinghouse and fellow dancer in the project taught me earlier in the day. I felt inspired and tried to incorporate it. The rhythm and shape of it is so different than anything I have ever done.
